The human parvovirus is seen externally as a rash on the skin. Known by many names, Fifths Disease, slapped cheek syndrome, slap face or slapped face. Scientifically fifths disease is referred to as erythema infectiosum, meaning infectious redness. In 1975, the cause of this redness was discovered to be Parvovirus B19. |

Patients with fifths disease are in most cases no longer contagious when they are showing the symptoms of the characteristic red rash. |
